Overcoming Ageism in the Workforce

This session will begin by developing an understanding of ageism generally and why it exists in the workforce, including its prevalence and how it is manifest.

The role of the mature worker is examined in terms of the need for and value of more seasoned people in the workforce, as well as certain legal protections, including the removal of mandatory retirement and the requirement of employers to accommodate employees on the basis of age.

The discussion will also consider how opportunities for older workers can be identified, and how candidates can best formulate their value proposition with prospective employers.
